This, one of the many buddhist temples of Nepal, represents a common structure of such temples around this region as well as northern India, called Stupa. A Stupa has a solid hemispherical base that enshrines a relic of the Buddha, which may be his mortal remains or some of his belongings. On top of the hemisphere there will be a square structure with the eyes on all four sides, then a pinnacle of several stages upto the top.

These pictures were taken in the Summer of 1988 during a short trip to Kathmandu, the capital of Nepal, a small country in the midst of Himalaya mountains in between China and India.
