Many photographers and artists spend considerable time doing portraits; portraits of people that is. But how about portraits of trees ? Look at them carefully; you will find that each tree has their own personality, that changes with the time of the day, and with seasons.

This picture was taken during a ski trip more than fifteen years ago. On the way to the ski slope my brother-in-law had to stop the car to put chains on the wheels, and I made a good use of the time taking pictures of the surroundings. Eventually, this was my first full page publication.

Here is another picture that was taken around the same time, a portrait of an urban tree at the campus of the Carnegie-Mellon University in Pittsburgh, PA, where I attended graduate school for a couple of years. The camera was set on a tripod. The exposure was about 10 seconds at f/8 with 100 ISO film.
