In consideration of the number of prominent objects in a picture, what is a good number? This is a matter of interest not only to photographers but artists in general. There are certain rules like - Odd numbers work best. Three is a particularly good number. If you have one, put it off-center. If you have two, it helps if they are of different size; or if not, put them along a line that is not square with the sides. For bigger even numbers, distribute them unevenly. So on and so forth. Of course, all these rules are meant to be broken by the experts. Following a formula may be the path, but not the goal. The goal is to create something that is visually appealing; and in photography, like any other form of art, there is no well-defined way for achieving that.
