Festival of Color

I just made a short trip to my hometown Kolkata following my father's demise. The hands that guided me from my first steps through many stages of life are suddenly no more. Even in this situation of sadness, I was lucky to be surrounded by my family and friends, the warmth of whose precious company did not let my heart down for a moment.

The day I left Kolkata to come back to the States, India was celebrating Holi, the festival of colors. I joyful celebration, where people play with colors and put colors (both dry powder and liquid form) on one another. If you are out on the street, don't be surprised if they put Abir (dry color) on you, or even take the liberty to drench you in liquid color mixed in water. Things often go crazy in the spirit of the festival.

Above is a picture of a small business owner (in both senses) selling colors on the roadside. They boy certainly looks like to have had his share of fun that morning. The one below was taken in our neighborhood. Of course, I added my own color in my own way on those images. Pentax W60, a small and compact waterproof camera appropriate for the situation, was used for these pictures.
