At this time of the year while people are enjoying the holiday season, the festive lighting makes an excellent
subject for photography. These pictures were taken on the Christmas day at a small German town called Leavenworth
located across the Cascade mountains. Every winter, they decorate the place beautifully with lights and
ornaments, bringing visitors from all around.
For these kind of lighting pictures, you can almost go with the automatic exposure system of your camera, keeping it
slightly on the overexposure side. You may also do a 1-stop exposure bracketing to reduce the chances of error.
If you shoot little early
in the evening, you will get the sky in blue, as in the picture above. Later, the sky will be flat dark, as in the
pictures below. Both are acceptable and work fine.

These pictures were shot at relatively high ISO (1600), which allowed handheld photography.
If you are using lower speed settings, it may be a good idea to put the camera on a tripod, or against a steady
support if possible.
