Dynamic Diagonal

While the vertical and horizontal lines are in accord with the edges of the conventional frame, a diagonal line is always in contrast, and catches the viewers interest quickly. Use of diagonal graphic elements in the picture also creates a feeling of dynamicity.

This picture of the rowing team in action was taken from a bridge in a late afternoon last Summer. Even though the motion was frozen using a high shutter speed, placing the boat in a diagonal fashion in the frame provides a sense of movement, emphacizing the strong velocity implicit in it.

The concept of diagonals can be used in pictures of both landscape and portrait orientation. For even more interesting effects, you can use two (or more) diagonal lines, either in parallel or intersecting each other.
