During the Medium format era of film photography, twin lens reflex (TLR) units like
the famous Rolleiflex, and many other -flex cameras were very popular,
and so was the square format,
since those cameras used to produce 6x6 cm images.
Then came the 35mm cameras and square format lost its popularity.
When I was a high school student, I started photography with one such TLR type camera that my father owned,
and til today I am quite attached to the square format. Here are some of my
digital photography work, produced in square format. All of these three pictures involve
some degree of image manipulation.
The one above is made of two separate pictures. The one of the child was a studio shot.
The sunflower picture was taken outdoors in natural light.
I combined the two with image editing software Paint Shop Pro.
The river is Ajay, one of many in Bengal (India) that creates heavy flooding
every year in monsoon time. The image of the clouds was shot in Seattle. I guess you
can call this combined image an example of East Meets West.
The last picture, a feline portrait, is more of less a straight shot
taken in outdoor daylight. Some contrast was added later digitally.
The original was in color which I later converted to grayscale.
