When taking people pictures the common practice is to have their eyes visible, or if that is not possible, at least have most part of the face visible. Unfortunately, this image has failed to follow that rule, although it didn’t fail what was intended to show: the veil.
In today’s India where traditional and modern ways of life walk hand in hand, the veil system still exists in a big part of the country, particularly in rural and sub-urban areas, where women cover their faces in the presence of strangers. The veil (called Ghunghat in India) not only hides her face, but also makes her more mysterious. This picture of two women in conversation with each other was taken at Fatepur, Uttar Pradesh.
The picture below is a portrait of a Rajasthani high-school student who happily posed for me. This time my camera didn’t fail to capture her face and the eyes.
